‘Real joy’ as Langham leaders unite at global congress
Around 100 people who are connected to Langham Partnership met together at a landmark conference in Bangkok for thousands of pastoral trainers from around the world.
The Global Proclamation Congress for Pastoral Trainers, held for a week in June, saw 3,000 leaders and trainers gather for Bible teaching, seminars, prayer and networking opportunities.
The conference was convened by RREACH (Ramesh Richard Evangelism and Church Health), a US based organisation seeking to strengthen pastoral leaders around the world. Langham Partnership was invited as it shares the same vision.
Encouraging
Mark Meynell, Associate Director for Langham Preaching (Europe), attended the congress alongside four other staff members: Paul Windsor (Director of Preaching), Paul Barker (a Regional Leader in Langham Preaching), Jennifer Cuthbertson (Coordinator for Trainer Development for Langham Preaching) and Alex Chang, who is on the South American leaders’ team.
Mike McGowan, who has been working in Francophone Africa, was also there.
Mark Meynell said it was very encouraging to catch up with such a large number of people who are involved with Langham Partnership.
“Amidst the hordes, we were able to make good connections with old friends and new friends who are linked with Langham, or are interested in linking with Langham. That was a real joy”.
Real highlight
“We hosted an afternoon session on the middle Saturday. Anyone who’s been to anything Langham could come along and we talked a bit about what we do there.”
“We had 3 people explaining the programme, Paul Windsor, Alex Chang from Peru and Albert Mabasi from Rwanda. They presented how we work and did a great job.”
“On the Sunday we had an outing, so we hired two coaches and just saw who turned up. We went to downtown Bangkok, went to a park and hung out together – that was really nice, people could chat and get to know one another.
“I think we reckon there were about 100 people from 24 countries actually present so that’s just epic really. So that was a real highlight.”
What a privilege!
Mark said he was struck by the quality of people who are involved with Langham’s work. He said, “it makes you think, ‘Wow, what a privilege to work with this lot!’”.
Sadly, two Nigerians who were planning to attend and speak were unable to, as they could not obtain visas in time.
Another highlight of the congress for Mark was seeing an estimated 100 people from Nepal and 100 from Myanmar (or Burma) attend the congress.
Mark said this was “very exciting”. “I can remember years back when these churches had hardly anybody”, he explained.
Please pray that the Langham people who attended can take the encouragement from networking with others back to their own situations and that the congress will bear lasting fruit for years to come.
