Earlier this year, following a week of Langham Preaching training, a special event was held to celebrate ten years of Langham Preaching in Vanuatu. This is a country made up of more than 80 islands in the South Pacific Ocean.

Stephen Williams, Regional Coordinator for Langham Preaching in the South Pacific, said the festivities were “beautifully done”. They were held “outside, under a shelter in a suggestion of the ‘Feast of Booths’. This was in honour of Nehemiah 8”.

Listening to God’s Word

This is a key passage for Langham Preaching. It describes how the people of God returned from exile and listened to the Word of God as it was preached to them. Verse 8 says “They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read.”

At the celebration a former Langham Preaching trainer on the island, Steve Gibb, preached (in Bislama, the local language) from John 7. He focused on Jesus’ words at that feast. Stephen Wiliams said it was “a joy” to welcome him and others back who have been “key to this work” in Vanuatu.

Celebrations took place outside under a shelter, in a suggestion of the ‘Feast of Booths’.

These included Rosemary and Andy Williamson, who are former teachers at Talua Bible College. Rosemary had translated into Bislama the materials that were used in the training the week before the celebrations. Andy Shudall from New Zealand was also a guest at the event.
